Adria Artichoke Hearts

The best thing about an artichoke? Clearly its tender heart. However, reaching it with fresh artichokes takes time, experience, and a lot of preparation. With our Adriatic artichoke hearts, we take care of this preparatory work for you: ready for the kitchen, immediately usable, and of consistent quality – portion by portion.

With their fine, slightly nutty aroma, they add that special something to numerous dishes and provide sophisticated accents. Our Adria Artichoke Hearts are available in various sizes – from particularly large hearts (5/7 or 8/12) to smaller varieties (50/60). The size indication describes the number of artichoke hearts per kilogram: the smaller the number, the larger the individual heart. This means there's a suitable size for every application – whether for antipasti, pizza, pasta, or salads.

Did you know?

Artichokes aren't really a vegetable in the traditional sense, but rather the still-closed flower bud of a thistle. They are harvested before the flower opens. If left to grow, a magnificent plant with a bright purple flower would develop.

The tender heart of the artichoke is particularly sought after. It must be painstakingly freed from the outer leaves and the so-called „hay“ inside. After cleaning, only a small part of a fresh artichoke often remains – which is precisely why ready-to-cook artichoke hearts are so popular in the catering industry.

Even the ancient Greeks and Romans valued artichokes as a delicacy. They attributed digestive and even aphrodisiac properties to them. For centuries, therefore, the artichoke was considered a precious luxury vegetable.
